About
Dr. ir. Martin van Duin is a part-time Professor at the Chemical Engineering & Technology department of the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering. He holds concurrent roles as Principle Scientist at ARLANXEO (global synthetic rubber leader) and previously worked at DSM Research (1986–2008). His expertise centers on rubber chemistry, polymer modification, and polymer analysis, with a focus on crosslinking chemistry, reactive extrusion, and thermoplastic vulcanisates.
Education: PhD in 'Borate esters: identification, structure, stability and cation coordinating ability' from Delft University of Technology (1987). Academic contributions include ~160 scientific papers and 10 industrial patents. Teaching involvement includes courses on product technology and industrial polymers at the University of Groningen.
Research interests emphasize structure-reactivity-performance relationships in polymers, particularly in rubber crosslinking and sustainable polymer systems. Collaborations span universities and research institutes, supervising ~20 PhD projects globally. His work bridges academia and industry, addressing challenges in rubber compounding, recycling, and green materials.
Key technical outputs include advancements in thermoreversible crosslinking systems and water-swellable elastomers. Current research trends focus on CO2-based polymers and industrial applications of sustainable rubber technologies.
