Martin Walker is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London, and a Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) since April 2021. Previously, he held a Lecturer position at RVC from 2017 to 2021. His primary research focuses on mathematical epidemiology for neglected tropical diseases and malaria elimination.
Dr. Walker's educational qualifications include a PhD in Mathematical Epidemiology from Imperial College London, an MSc in Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Oxford, and a PGCert from the Royal Veterinary College.
As a mathematical epidemiologist, Dr. Walker specializes in developing transmission models to evaluate elimination strategies for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) such as onchocerciasis, soil-transmitted helminthiases, schistosomiasis, and lymphatic filariasis. He is Principal Investigator on the QuoVadis project (WHO) and works with the NTD Modelling Consortium to assess the feasibility of WHO elimination goals. His statistical interests span communicable and non-communicable disease epidemiology.
Dr. Walker collaborates with multiple international research consortia including the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis, DNDi, A•WOL Consortium, and TOVA Initiative. He was a member of the APOC Consultative Committee on strategic options for onchocerciasis elimination in Africa. His work guides global public health policies for disease control and elimination.
