Prof. Dr. Martin Sökefeld is Professor and Head of Social and Cultural Anthropology at LMU Munich. Research focuses on political subjectivity in migration contexts.
Current DFG-funded projects examine subject formation of refugee women and emotional economies of remigration to Pakistan. Fieldwork conducted in Northern Pakistan (Gilgit-Baltistan), Germany, and Kashmir.
Organizes workshops on refugee agency (2023) and deportation experiences (2022). Serves as Chairman of German Anthropological Association since 2021 and leads Ethics Committee for Social Anthropology.
Regional expertise includes disaster governance in post-earthquake Pakistan, mobile technology adoption in Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmiri diaspora politics.
