About
Martin Skov is a Senior Lecturer in Ocean Sciences at the School of Ocean Sciences, Bangor University. He holds a BSc (1st Class Hons) in Marine Biology from Bangor University (1996) and a PhD in Mangrove Ecology from Liverpool University (2001). His postdoctoral career included research fellowships at Lisbon University, Bangor University, and Southampton University, focusing on crustacean recruitment dynamics, phytoplankton research, and intertidal snail biofilm studies. He returned to Bangor in 2009 as a Research Lecturer, transitioning to a permanent lectureship in 2013 and later a Senior Lecturer.
His research emphasizes experimental ecology in coastal systems, particularly the ecological functioning and ecosystem services of salt marshes, mangroves, and seagrasses. Key interests include landscape-scale processes such as coastal protection, carbon sequestration, and long-term changes in wetland cover. He combines field experiments, hydrological flumes, and historical data to study human-ecosystem interactions.
