About
Prof. Dr. Martin S. Weber is a Tenured W2 Professor for 'Translational Neuroinflammation' at the University Medical Center Göttingen (Germany). He leads the Neuroimmunology Unit and the interdisciplinary Multiple Sclerosis Center Göttingen. His roles include Managing Senior Physician, Deputy Head of the Neurochemical Analysis Lab, and Head of the ProFutura-funded Research Group on Translational Neuroinflammation. Dr. Weber's academic journey includes a Dr. med. from the University of Würzburg (2003), postdoctoral training at Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich (2002–2004) and the University of California, San Francisco (2004–2007). His research focuses on B cells, antigen-presenting cells, and their roles in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) pathogenesis and therapy. Key projects include studying B cell depletion therapies, autoantibody mechanisms, and CNS-draining lymphoid organs. His group collaborates closely with clinical units to translate findings into patient treatments.
Education: Dr. med., Medical School of the University of Würzburg (2003); postdoctoral fellowships in Munich-Großhadern, Max Planck Institute, and UCSF. Habilitation (2012) and Venia Legendi in Neurology from Technical University Munich.
Research interests emphasize B cell diversity, antigen presentation in MS, and therapeutic innovation. Projects include evaluating Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibition, effects of approved MS drugs (e.g., dimethyl fumarate, natalizumab), and antibody-mediated disease initiation.
Lab affiliations: Institute of Neuropathology (AG Weber) and Department of Neurology, UMG. Collaborations with clinical teams enable rapid translation of preclinical findings into clinical trials.
