Professor Martin Lodge holds the position of Professor of Political Science and Public Policy at the Department of Government, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He also serves as Deputy Head of Department for Research and Director of the Centre for Analysis of Risk and Regulation (CARR). His key research focuses on executive politics, public administration, and regulation, with a particular interest in crisis management and regulatory capacity.
Before joining LSE in 2002, Lodge was a Lecturer in Public Policy at the University of Ulster and a Senior Research Officer at CARR. He leads the TransCrisis research consortium, funded by the European Commission’s Horizon2020 program, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. Lodge’s editorial roles include Managing Editor of Public Administration and co-editor of the Palgrave book series on ‘Executive Politics & Governance’.
His research explores regulatory doctrines, transboundary crisis management, and the evolving role of regulatory agencies. Notable projects include studies on the UK’s response to the pandemic and comparative analyses of regulatory frameworks in Latin America and Europe. Lodge’s work emphasizes institutional capacity, accountability mechanisms, and the interplay between political and administrative systems.
