Martin Langner

Prof. Dr. Martin Langner is an Adjunct Professor of Classical Archaeology at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and the Director of the Niedersächsisches Landesmuseum Hannover since 2011. He has led significant archaeological projects in Egypt, Rome, and Syria, with funding from DFG, DAAD, and the VolkswagenStiftung.

Education

Research Interests

Langner specializes in Classical Archaeology, focusing on Roman and Egyptian antiquities. His work includes excavation of the Roman Necropolis at Tuna el-Gebel in Egypt, the tomb of Siamun in the Siwa Oasis (1998-2000), and the sculptures from the sanctuary of Amrit in Syria (2000-2003). He also coordinates large-scale archaeological conservation projects, such as the Pergamonmuseum restoration (2002-2004).

Leadership & Grants

Langner has secured funding from DFG, DAAD, and the VolkswagenStiftung for projects like the Roman Necropolis of Tuna el-Gebel. He served as Managing Director of the Roemer- und Pelizaeus-Museum Hildesheim (2005-2011) and continues to direct interdisciplinary collaborations in archaeology and museum studies.
