Martin Hexamer

PD Dr. Martin Hexamer is a Professor at Ruhr University Bochum's Faculty of Medicine, specializing in biomedical engineering and medical technology. He holds a Dipl.-Ing. in electrical engineering and a Dr. rer. nat. from Ruhr University Bochum, where his doctoral work focused on thermoregulation in extreme environments. He later pioneered research in rate-adaptive pacemaker therapy and heart-lung machine automation.

His research spans rate-adaptive pacemaker systems, blood gas control algorithms for heart-lung machines, and miniaturized cardiopulmonary support devices. He has secured funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and collaborates with industry partners on medical device innovation.

Hexamer is a member of the German Association of Electrical Engineers (VDE) and has served on the Ethics Committee of the RUB Faculty of Medicine for over two decades. He regularly reviews for international journals and funding bodies like the DFG.
