Martin Dinter

Dr Martin Dinter is a Senior Lecturer in Latin Literature at King's College London (KCL), based in the Department of Classics within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. He holds a prestigious position as a Humboldt Fellow for Experienced Researchers (2021–2023) and has been awarded multiple fellowships, including the Berliner Antike Kolleg (2023–2024) and a PRINT-CAPES grant for collaboration with the University of São Paulo. His academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2006) and prior roles at Exeter University and the University of São Paulo as a research fellow.

His research focuses on Latin Epic, Intermediality/Transmediality, Cultural Memory, and Conflict Resolution, with notable works like Anatomizing Lucan (2012) and edited volumes such as The Cambridge Companion to Roman Comedy (2019). Dinter’s current projects include a monograph on Cato’s poetics and a volume on Decolonising Latin Literature.

He leads the GCRF-AHRC-funded Irene Project, exploring classical literature’s role in conflict resolution. Notable awards include the Higher Education Academy Fellowship (2008) and grants for pedagogical initiatives like Empowering the Curriculum.

Recent publications include Cultural Memory in Republican and Augustan Rome (2023) and articles on Lucan’s Civil War, Roman reconciliation, and classical pedagogy. Dinter has co-organized international conferences on Roman Cultural Memory and Intermediality, furthering interdisciplinary dialogue in classics.
