Dr. Marta Elliott is Foundation Professor and Chair of Sociology at the University of Nevada, Reno. She specializes in social determinants of health, mental illness stigma, and religion/spirituality's impact on well-being. Her research has been funded by NIH, NSF, and Spencer Foundation grants, examining health disparities across gender, race, and veteran status.
Elliott teaches graduate courses in survey research methods, sociology of mental health, and social psychology of health. She has chaired over 30 doctoral and master's committees and received the Thornton Peace Prize (2016) and Dean's Award for Research Excellence (2015).
Her recent publications investigate mental health in professional workplaces, opioid addiction stigma, and gender inequality in academia. Elliott employs diverse methodologies including large-scale surveys, vignette experiments, and in-depth interviews to study stress processes across populations.
