Marta Couce, MD, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Pathology and Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the School of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University. She also serves as Director of Tissue Resources at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. Her research focuses on neurometabolic aspects of gliomas, endocrine signaling pathways, and blood-brain barrier mechanisms. Dr. Couce holds a Doctor of Medicine from the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (1986) and completed multiple fellowships at the Mayo Clinic in Neuropathology, Surgical Pathology, and Endocrinology, followed by training in Anatomic Pathology at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Her work spans leptin's role in pituitary and brain physiology, glioma biology, and tumor heterogeneity. Key studies include investigations into leptin receptor distribution, obesity-related metabolic dysfunction, and molecular characterization of gliomas. Dr. Couce collaborates across disciplines, contributing to translational insights in neuro-oncology and endocrine pathology.
