Marta Calás is a Professor at the Isenberg School of Management, University of Massachusetts-Amherst since 1986, with prior roles including Professor at the University of Puerto Rico (1972–1985) and visiting appointments at the University of Gothenburg (2012), Åbo Akademi University (2000), and the University of Michigan (1992). She holds a PhD in Organization Studies (UMass Amherst, 1987), an MBA from UC Berkeley (1970), and a BBA from the University of Puerto Rico (1966).
Her research focuses on gender and feminist theorizing, critical perspectives on globalization and sustainability, and contemporary social/cultural theory. Teaching spans undergraduate courses like Behavior in the Global Economy, master’s courses in organizational behavior, and doctoral seminars on research theory and gender studies.
Recent honors include the Dean’s Research Excellence Award (2010) and the Sage Award (2006). Her work addresses intersectionality, transnational identity, and institutional barriers in entrepreneurship and organizational dynamics. Grants include a 2004 initiative on cycling industry innovation. She has advised multiple doctoral students and contributed to academic leadership through roles like Acting Dean at UPR (1984–1985).
