Marrie Bekker is an Endowed Professor in Clinical Psychology at the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her research focuses on attachment theory, autonomy, connectedness, and mental health in immigrant populations. She leads the 'Autonomy-Connectedness and Eating Disorders' project (2022–2027), exploring stress modulation and clinical interventions. Recent work includes studies on interpersonal behavior during the pandemic and mental health disparities among Turkish/Moroccan immigrants. Her contributions span systematic reviews on EMDR therapy adaptations for intellectual disabilities and experimental stress-testing methodologies. She advises PhD candidate N.
