About
Prof. Markus Winterer is a Professor and Chair of Nanoparticle Process Technology at the University of Duisburg-Essen's Faculty of Engineering. His research focuses on catalysis, nanoparticle synthesis, and materials science, with notable contributions to structural characterization of nanomaterials for environmental applications. He leads Project B1 in the CRC/TRR 247 consortium, investigating oxidation catalysis using advanced structural analysis techniques.
Winterer holds a Diploma in Chemistry from the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (1985) and a Doctoral degree in Physical Chemistry from the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (1989). He completed his Habilitation in Materials Science at TU Darmstadt in 2001. His career includes postdoctoral research at Argonne National Laboratory (USA) and long-term roles in the Thin Films Division at TU Darmstadt.
He has served as Speaker of the Research Training Group 1240 (2006–2011) and Vice Speaker of CRC 445 (2005–2010). His work emphasizes nanoparticle-based technologies, with publications spanning catalytic materials, functionalized nanoparticles, and laser sintering of thin films. Awards include the Feodor-Lynen Scholarship (1990–1992) from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
