About
Dr. Markus Wess is a Research Fellow (Post-Doc) at the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing at TU Wien (Vienna University of Technology). His research focuses on developing numerical methods for Helmholtz resonance problems in unbounded domains, particularly frequency-dependent complex-scaled infinite elements for wave propagation modeling.
His core research interests include computational mathematics applied to wave phenomena, finite element methods implementation using Netgen/NGSolve, non-linear eigenvalue problems, and resonance analysis of electromagnetic waves in metamaterials. He specializes in tensor-product exterior discretizations and frequency-dependent scaling functions.
Dr. Wess completed his PhD dissertation Frequency-Dependent Complex-Scaled Infinite Elements for Exterior Helmholtz Resonance Problems at TU Wien under Assoc. Prof. Lothar Nannen (2020). He holds dual backgrounds with a Master's in Technical Mathematics (TU Wien) and a Bachelor in Jazz Trumpet (Konservatorium Wien).
