Markus Nemitz

Dr. Markus Nemitz is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Tufts University's School of Engineering, leading the Nemitz Robotics Group. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh (2018) and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard University until 2020. Before joining Tufts in 2024, he served as an Assistant Professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) from 2020–2024. His research focuses on soft robotics, additive manufacturing, and fluidic control systems, with notable work on 3D-printable robots and robot ecosystems. He has secured significant funding, including an NSF CAREER Award (2023) and grants from the U.S. Army and EPA. His recent projects include combatting algal blooms via 3D-printed floating photocatalysts.
