Markus Huber

Prof. Markus Huber is a Professor for drawing and illustration at the Muthesius Academy of Art and Design Kiel, where he has taught since the winter semester 2009/10. He also held teaching assignments at the University of Applied Sciences HAW in Hamburg starting in 2008/09. His academic background includes studies in Sinology and Art History at LMU Munich, Peking University, and the University of Hamburg from 1983-1997.

Huber's research interests focus on visual narrative techniques, cross-cultural illustration practices, and the intersection of comic art with traditional drawing methods. His work demonstrates particular expertise in multilingual and international comic production, with publications appearing in German, French, English, and other languages. His artistic approach combines academic rigor with experimental visual storytelling techniques.

Professor Huber has maintained an active exhibition schedule since 1993, with shows across Europe including major venues in Hamburg, Paris, Vienna, Angoulême, and Zurich. His work has been featured in significant exhibitions such as 'Traits Contemporains!' in Angoulême (2002) and 'Los Hoteles de la Imaginación' in Valencia (2007), often accompanied by catalogues and publications.

As part of the Muthesius Academy faculty, Huber contributes to what the institution describes as 'project-oriented' studies that encourage students to 'gain experience with real clients at an early stage.' The academy emphasizes freedom as 'the first prerequisite for art and design,' aligning with Huber's experimental approach to visual narrative.
