Markus Held is a faculty member at the Hertie School with the academic rank of Adjunct Professor. He currently serves as the HR Business Partner in the Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighourhood (DG ENEST) of the European Commission. Previously, he led Learning and Development for the European External Action Service (EEAS), training diplomats globally. Since 2003, he has worked extensively in EU affairs, including roles in international NGOs and founding the European Voluntary Humanitarian Aid Corps.
As an EMPA alumnus, Held has co-convened the Brussels workshop since 2014. His teaching focuses on management and leadership development in the public sector. His research interests span public administration, EU policy implementation, and international relations.
