Markus Brielmeier

Markus Brielmeier is a Lecturer in Laboratory Animal Science at the Veterinary Faculty of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich and Head of the Core Facility Laboratory Animal Services (CF-LAS) at Helmholtz Munich since 2021. With a background in veterinary medicine and molecular biology, he has pioneered advancements in laboratory animal hygiene monitoring and animal welfare.

• Educated in veterinary medicine at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (1991) and earned a PhD on Epstein-Barr Virus (1995).
• Postdoctoral work on selenoproteins and their roles in organ function (1995–1999).
• Lecturer in Laboratory Animal Science since 2007.

His research focuses on revolutionizing animal testing methodologies through PCR-based hygiene monitoring of mouse colonies and home cage monitoring using AI and non-invasive technologies. These innovations aim to enhance animal welfare and data validity by minimizing human intervention.
