Marko Zivkovic, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Arts. Born in Belgrade, Serbia, he holds a PhD from the University of Chicago and has conducted research on Serbian national identity, post-socialist transitions, and intersections between art and anthropology. His work bridges ethnographic methods with artistic practices, notably through collaborations with his late wife Gordana Zivkovic. He teaches courses on anthropological theory, Japanese anthropology, and advanced ethnographic methods.

Research interests include anthropology of art/science, symbolic geographies of European margins, and the social life of things. He co-developed the 'School for Ethnographic Sensibility' program in Belgrade, blending art and mindfulness training with anthropological field methods. A longtime practitioner of Aikido, he explores embodied knowledge through martial arts and photography.
Recent teaching activities include ANTHR 302 (History of Anthropological Theory), ANTHR 325 (Anthropology of Japan), and advanced seminar courses. His photography projects, such as the Bus No. 6 collaboration with Gordana, focus on urban infrastructures and perceptual ethnography.
