Mark Walmsley

Dr. Mark Walmsley is a Lecturer in Humanities and Widening Participation Academic Lead at the University of East Anglia's Interdisciplinary Institute for the Humanities. His research focuses on US civil rights history, media history, and the Gay Liberation movement, examining how media narratives shape perceptions of social activism both historically and contemporarily.

Research interests center on media representations of liberation struggles, including the Civil Rights Movement and LGBTQ+ activism. His work analyzes mainstream media narratives and their influence on historical understanding.

Publications include peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on topics such as the 1965 Selma Campaign and SNCC's media interactions (15 citations, 4 Mendeley readers). His academic output spans 2014–2018.
