Professor Mark Stuart is the Pro Dean for Research and Innovation at the University of Leeds' Leeds University Business School. He holds the Montague Burton Chair in Human Resource Management and Employment Relations, and is Founding Director of CERIC (Centre for Employment Relations, Innovation and Change). His research focuses on digital futures, platform labor, organizational restructuring, and union modernization. Stuart has secured over £10 million in external funding, including a £6.5 million ESRC grant for the Digit research centre (co-directed with Professor Jackie O’Reilly). He has published extensively in top journals like the British Journal of Industrial Relations and Work, Employment and Society.

Research Interests: Stuart investigates the societal impact of digital technologies, platform labor unrest (e.g., via the Leeds Index of Platform Labour Protest), steel sector restructuring, and post-pandemic labor market shifts. His work bridges academic theory with policy advocacy, particularly in social protection for gig economy workers.
