Mark Sandberg

Mark Sandberg is a Professor of Film and Media and Professor of Scandinavian at the University of California, Berkeley. He serves as Faculty Director of the Nordic Studies Program and Chair of the Nordic Center. His academic work bridges film and theater history with surrounding visual culture, focusing on Scandinavian cinema and directors such as Sjöstrom, Stiller, Dreyer, Bergman, and von Trier.

His teaching portfolio includes courses on Film Historiography, Pre-cinema/Para-Cinema, Silent Film Comedy, Scandinavian Film topics, Serial Television, Ibsen's plays, and graduate seminars in Scandinavian literature. Current projects involve analyzing recent American period serial television and studying location shooting practices in the silent film era.
