About
Mark Renz is Professor and Extension Weed Specialist in UW-Madison's Department of Plant and Agroecosystem Sciences. His research develops sustainable weed management strategies for perennial crops (alfalfa, pastures) and natural ecosystems threatened by invasive plants.
Research optimizes interseeding techniques for alfalfa-corn systems, evaluates herbicide efficacy in silvopasture conversion, and models invasive species distributions across Wisconsin. Extension outreach includes developing decision tools like Weed-O-Meter and WISTIPP Viewer for land managers.
Dr. Renz teaches weed identification and management in the Farm and Industry Short Course program. His lab collaborates with agricultural producers, natural resource agencies, and the Wisconsin First Detector Network on invasive species monitoring.
