Dr. Mark Relyea is an Associate Research Scientist in Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, part of Yale University. His work focuses on preventing sexual assault and harassment, improving outcomes for survivors, and addressing patient harassment within the Veterans Health Administration (VA). He holds a PhD in Community Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2016), an MA from the same institution (2012), and a BA from the University of Connecticut (2001).
His research emphasizes veterans’ mental health, intimate partner violence (IPV), and healthcare system interventions. Notably, he leads a VA Career Development Award examining patient harassment and bystander intervention strategies. Key collaborations include work with Galina Portnoy, Cynthia Brandt, and Sally Haskell on veterans’ IPV patterns and healthcare utilization.
Recent publications address latent class analyses of IPV among veterans, implementation science for screening protocols, and rural healthcare coordination for women veterans.
