About
Mark R. Spaller is an Associate Professor of Medical Education at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, with adjunct appointments in Biological Sciences and Chemistry. He is affiliated with the Norris Cotton Cancer Center and serves as Associate Professor of Pharmacology & Toxicology.
Dr. Spaller received his B.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on protein-ligand and protein-protein interactions of biological and medicinal significance, particularly those regulating oncogenic and neuronal signal transduction pathways.
His laboratory employs an interdisciplinary approach combining organic and peptide synthesis, protein biochemistry, molecular biology, and biophysics. Current research areas include:
- PDZ Domains & Neurobiology
- PDZ Domains & Cancer
- Protein-Ligand Interactions
- Design & Synthesis of Anticancer Chemical Libraries
His publication record demonstrates consistent productivity across multiple disciplines, with recent work focusing on pancreatic cancer mechanisms, neuronal signaling pathways, and the development of peptide-based therapeutics targeting specific protein domains. Dr. Spaller's research has particular relevance to cancer therapeutics and neurological disorders.
Dr. Spaller actively mentors both graduate and undergraduate students in his laboratory, providing them with multidisciplinary training that spans chemical synthesis, biochemistry, and molecular biology techniques. His laboratory culture emphasizes collaboration both within the group and with external research teams specializing in complementary methodologies.
