Mark P. Thomas

Mark P. Thomas is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at York University's Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. He previously served as Director of the Global Labour Research Centre at York and held visiting roles at Carleton University's Institute of Political Economy and the Université de Genève's Institut de Recherches Sociologiques.

His research focuses on working time and new technologies, labor dynamics under austerity and populism in urban North America, and employment standards enforcement in Canada. He has authored and co-authored books including Regulating Flexibility: The Political Economy of Employment Standards (2009) and Closing the Employment Standards Enforcement Gap (2020), with work published in journals like Antipode and Studies in Political Economy.

Thomas holds appointments in the Faculty of Graduate Studies and has contributed to edited volumes such as Change and Continuity: Canadian Political Economy in the New Millennium (2019).
