About
Mark P. Andrews is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at McGill University and a member of the McGill Institute for Advanced Materials (MIAM). His research integrates chemistry, physics, and engineering to design functional materials with properties like optical conductivity, magnetism, and piezoelectricity.
Research focuses on synthesizing biopolymers and photo-imaging glasses to create micron-scale optical circuits ('optical chemical benches'). This enables laser-based interrogation of thin films and interfaces through Raman spectroscopy and nonlinear optical techniques. Additional work explores optical self-writing phenomena and plasmonic nanophotonics using noble metal nanoparticles.
He teaches courses in Instrumental Analysis, Inorganic Materials Chemistry, and Nanoscience/Nanotechnology.
