Mark Ord is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Sunderland, where he joined in 2018 after completing his PhD at Northumbria University. His academic work focuses on evolutionary psychology and human behavior, with particular emphasis on attractiveness and mate selection.
Dr. Ord's research interests include:
- Application of evolutionary theory to psychology
- Attraction and mate selection processes
- Competition within and between males and females
- Group dynamics in the context of online dating and social media
- Male psychology with focus on how attractiveness interacts with various aspects of male psychology
- Current research on how variability in attractiveness impacts male life outcomes and men who are involuntarily celibate
His research examines how social judgments of men can impact women's mate choice, with his PhD thesis titled "The Bio-Social Correlates of Women's Mate Choice Copying" investigating whether pairing men's faces with women of varying attractiveness could impact judgments of men's attractiveness.
Dr. Ord has been featured in several recent news articles (2025) related to male mental health events, including a "Sell-out success for male mental health event" and "A 'Space To Think' about male mental health."
He serves as a personal academic tutor for first and third-year students and supervises MSc and BSc dissertation students.
