Mark Newman

Mark Newman is a Professor of Secondary Education and Social Studies at the National College of Education (NCE), part of National Louis University. He currently serves as Chair of NCE Secondary Education Programs and has held leadership roles including Chair of NCE Curriculum & Instruction and Co-Chair of the NCE Faculty since 2002. His teaching spans courses like Methods of Teaching Social Studies, Practicum, and Student Teaching Seminar.

Dr. Newman's research focuses on Historical Geography, Visual Culture & Literacy, and Inquiry-Based Learning. He has authored/co-authored six books with Rowman & Littlefield since 2014, emphasizing primary sources, multilingual learners, and visual literacy integration. His recent work includes a 2024 publication on inquiry-driven history education.

His articles explore themes like primary source analysis and geography education, with notable contributions to The Social Studies and Geography Education. Newman has secured four National Endowment for the Humanities grants and directed a Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Project.
