Mark Mossman

Mark Mossman is a tenured Professor in the Department of English and Journalism at Western Illinois University (WIU), serving as Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs since November 1, 2023. He joined WIU as an Assistant Professor of English in 2001, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005, and Professor in 2010.

• Education: B.A. and M.A. in English from Southern Illinois University–Edwardsville; Ph.D. in English from Saint Louis University.
• Administrative Roles: Director of Graduate Studies in English, Chair of the English and Journalism Department (2010–2018), Co-coordinator of WIU's Dual Enrollment Program, and founder of a freshman Living and Learning Community focused on liberal arts.

Mossman’s academic work aligns with English literature, liberal arts education, and curriculum development, while his administrative career emphasizes strategic planning and enhancing student learning experiences. In 2023, he was selected for the Becoming a Provost Academy (BAPA) by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), underscoring his leadership trajectory in higher education.
