Mark Matlin

Mark Matlin serves as Senior Lecturer and Laboratory Coordinator in the Physics Department at Bryn Mawr College, holding the Katharine E. McBride Professorship. He returned to Bryn Mawr in 2003 after academic appointments at Sarah Lawrence College, the University of Pennsylvania, Haverford College, and Rowan University, along with industry experience at TRW Corp. and Lockheed Martin Corp.

His educational background includes a bachelor's degree from Swarthmore College and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Maryland at College Park.

Dr. Matlin's research spans theoretical general relativity, gas laser dynamics, photorefractive materials applications, and neuroscience-based vision models. His current focus bridges physics and computational neuroscience to develop image analysis and feature recognition algorithms, emphasizing biologically inspired approaches to visual processing.
