Dr. Mark Mamula is a Professor of Medicine in the Rheumatology Department at Yale School of Medicine, affiliated with Yale Cancer Center and its Cancer Immunology Program. He directs an active research laboratory investigating immune tolerance mechanisms in autoimmune diseases and cancer.
His research focuses on:
- Posttranslational modifications of autoantigens in lupus and type 1 diabetes
- B-cell mediated antigen presentation and epitope spreading
- Development of anti-tumor vaccines for breast/colon cancer
- Oxidative tissue modifications in autoimmune pathology
- Biomarker discovery for β-cell stress in diabetes
Recent publications (2021-2023) explore gene expression signatures in autoimmune diseases, protein modification mechanisms in lupus T-cell responses, and proteomic approaches to diabetes biomarkers. His work consistently bridges basic immunology with therapeutic applications.
Dr. Mamula holds a PhD from the University of Oklahoma (1986), MS from Notre Dame (1982), and BA from UCLA (1979). He maintains active collaborations across immunology and rheumatology disciplines.
