Mark Jones

Dr. Mark Jones is an Associate Professor at the School of Architecture, Design and Planning, University of Queensland. With over 35 years in architectural practice, including leadership roles at Mark Jones Architects and Architectus, he transitioned to academia post-2015. His expertise bridges industry and academia, focusing on design, professional practice, and sustainable urban development.

Education includes a PhD in energy justice at University College London (2020), a Master of Sustainable Urban Development from Oxford (2017), and part-time Masters in Management (2005) and Business (2015). His research examines energy inequities in informal settlements, notably in Dhaka’s slums.

Notable awards include the RAIA State and National Awards for projects like the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and a 2022 Life Fellowship from the Australian Institute of Architects for service to the profession. He previously served as Queensland Chapter President (2022), Program Convenor for the Master of Architecture (2022–2024), and chairs Fuel for Change: Dhaka, a charity addressing firewood cooking in slums.
