Mark Jones is a Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Southampton and clinical lead for the interstitial lung disease service at University Hospitals Southampton. He leads interdisciplinary research into fibrosis mechanisms and early diagnosis, combining clinical, engineering, and computational approaches. His work focuses on biomimetic models, spatial 'omics, and translational therapies.
Education: BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences (2005), BM (Hons) Medicine (2006), PhD (2016), MRCP(UK) (2009).
Research Interests: Fibrosis pathogenesis, biomimetic models, early diagnosis, and treatment of interstitial lung diseases. His group collaborates with Engineering, Mathematics, and Pharma to develop diagnostic tools and therapies.
Key Projects: Preclinical evaluation of therapeutic targets, spatial biology platforms, and lung fibrosis microenvironment analysis. Funded by Aair Charity, MRC, and Royal Society.
Awards: Scientific Merit Award (2018).
Teaching: Responsible for Respiratory Medicine teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Serves as BM Finals Clinical Assessment Lead and BM5 examiner.
