Mark Jones is an Assistant Professor in Global History at University College Dublin's School of History, serving as Director of Research and Programme Director for the MA in Global History. His research examines patterns of political violence across revolutionary contexts with particular focus on:
- Comparative analysis of revolutionary movements in early 20th century Europe
- Connections between warfare and political radicalization
- German political history between 1914-1945
- Global methodologies for studying revolutionary phenomena
His publications consistently explore themes of state formation following violent conflict, the psychological dimensions of revolutionary periods, and the interplay between political instability and authoritarian emergence.
Award recognition includes seven competitive fellowships including the prestigious ELEVATE Irish Research Council International Career Development Fellowship (2014-2017) and Leibniz DAAD Research Fellowship. He currently supervises two PhD candidates and has mentored multiple postdoctoral researchers.
