Mark Jones

Mark Jones is a Professor and Chair of the History Department at Central Connecticut State University. He specializes in Japanese history and modern world history, focusing on middle-class identity and emotional history in early 20th-century Japan.

• Education: B.A. (1991) in History from Dartmouth College, M.A. (1996) and Ph.D. (2001) in Japanese History from Columbia University.

His research examines intersections of emotion, rationality, and cultural heritage in pre-war Japan. He has lectured at Harvard, Columbia, and the University of California, Santa Barbara, and presented at the Association of Asian Studies.

Key publications include Children as Treasures: Childhood and the Middle Class in Early Twentieth Century Japan (2010) and articles on romantic love's role in shaping modern Japanese identity.
