Mark Jeffery is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Performance Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. With over 30 years in performance art, his interdisciplinary practice combines choreography, visual art, and emerging technologies.
As co-founder of Anatomical Theatres of Mixed Reality (ATOM-r), Jeffery creates works exploring:
- Forensics and anatomy through augmented reality
- Queer histories of computing
- 21st century embodiment practices
Jeffery's research investigates:disappearing working class iconographies through:
- Remapping embodied geographies
- Re-contextualizing occupational gestures
- Interdisciplinary historical research
Current projects include:
- Memento Mori: Investigating anatomical theaters and forensic models
- Residencies at The Poor Farm and National Museum of Health and Medicine Chicago
- Ohklahomo performance space for experimental collaborations
Jeffery curates the IN>TIME performance festival and maintains collaborative partnerships across visual arts, technology, and queer theory.
