About
Mark Hanson is a Professor and Environmental Science and Studies Program Chair at the University of Manitoba's Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources. He holds a Ph.D. in Toxicology from the University of Guelph and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Zoology from the University of Toronto.
His research focuses on aquatic ecotoxicology and ecological risk assessment, particularly the fate and effects of pesticides, wastewater contaminants (including nutrients, pharmaceuticals, and microplastics), and unconventional oil. Dr. Hanson examines how these contaminants affect non-target species and influence responses at population, community, and ecosystem levels, utilizing mesocosms and developing novel toxicity bioassays.
Dr. Hanson's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on environmental contaminants, climate change interactions, and innovative assessment methodologies. His work frequently addresses the impacts of pollutants in aquatic systems, groundwater contamination, and the ecological implications of climate-related atmospheric changes.
