Mark Gallagher

Mark Gallagher is Professor and Chair of Physics at Lakehead University since August 1995, leading the Surface Physics Research group.

Research focuses on:

• Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
• On-surface synthesis of molecular nanomaterials
• Atomic-scale characterization via scanning tunneling microscopy (STM)
• Growth of topological polymers on metal surfaces
• Formation of 2D nanostructures on passivated silicon

Actively recruits diverse students from Physics, Chemistry, and Materials Science backgrounds with strong emphasis on equity and inclusion. International collaborations include a 2020 Nature Materials publication with Italian researchers.
