Mark Evans

Professor Mark Evans is a Professor of Industrial Design at Loughborough University's School of Design and Creative Arts. He holds a B.Ed (Hons) from Sheffield City Polytechnic, an MA from Leicester Polytechnic, and a PhD from Loughborough University. A Fellow of the Industrial Designers Society of America (2021), he has pioneered design-based research methodologies, emphasizing creative practice in data collection and translation. His work spans global projects, including the Thinking Materials initiative in Africa and the Circular Plastic project in Sub-Saharan Africa. He has collaborated with institutions like MIT, Rhode Island School of Design, and leading universities worldwide, contributing to design education, medical device design, and sustainable materials research.

Key research interests include design education, additive manufacturing, sustainable development, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Notable achievements include the IDSA Educator of the Year (2016) and a Silver Award in the International Design Excellence Awards (2021). Evans has supervised 20 PhD students and examined 21 doctoral theses. His work on design tools like the iD Cards and the D.Doc project has enhanced design communication and doctoral education globally.
