Mark Dochterman serves as Director of the University of Illinois Springfield Volunteer & Civic Engagement Center and works as an adjunct instructor in Experiential and Service-learning. He joined UIS in 2011 and received the 2016 Chancellor's Academic Professional Excellence (CAPE) Award for his significant contributions to campus life and student engagement.
His professional focus centers on:
- Service Learning and community-campus partnerships
- Civic engagement and volunteer management
- Student leadership development through experiential education
- Organizational development for student groups and community initiatives
Dochterman has received the 2016 CAPE Award (Chancellor's Academic Professional Excellence Award), which recognizes academic professionals for work projects, professional development, and contributions to their units.
In his role, Dochterman advises numerous student organizations including Alternative Spring Break, Dance Marathon and Leadership for Life. He leads campus initiatives such as the Springfest Service Project and the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, chairs the Springfield Good as Gold volunteer awards ceremony, and serves as arrangements chair for the Central Illinois Volunteer Conference. He notably implemented the Collegiate Link software program (UIS Connection), enabling over 85 student organizations to post more than 1,000 campus events while providing students with records of their involvement.
