Mark Collard is a Full Professor of Archaeology and Biological Anthropology at Simon Fraser University (SFU), Canada, and holds the Canada Research Chair in Human Evolutionary Studies. He directs the SFU Human Evolutionary Studies Program. He previously held positions at University College London, Washington State University, and the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on evolutionary anthropology, including hominin phylogeny, bioarchaeology, and material culture analysis. He earned a BA from the University of Sheffield and a PhD from the University of Liverpool.
Research interests include reconstructing fossil hominin relationships, estimating body mass from skeletal remains, and applying evolutionary biology to archaeological patterns. His work spans interdisciplinary methods, such as 3D geometric morphometrics and isotope analysis, to address questions about human adaptation, migration, and cultural change.
Recent articles highlight studies on hominin introgression, South Asian colonization, and Viking ancestry, as well as climate-conflict linkages in historical contexts. His awards include the prestigious Canada Research Chair. Collard actively engages in fieldwork and public outreach, including collaborations with Indigenous communities.
