Mark Byrd

Mark Byrd serves as a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the School of Computing and Technology, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, with research rooted in quantum physics and computing disciplines.

He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Texas at Austin, establishing a foundation for interdisciplinary work bridging computer science and physical sciences.

His research focuses on advancing quantum technologies through quantum error prevention, simulation of quantum systems using quantum systems, and quantum information processing. This work addresses core challenges in scalable quantum computing, emphasizing fault tolerance and system modeling within theoretical and applied frameworks.
