About
Mark Burden is a Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London, where he teaches courses on poetry, eighteenth-century satire, and medieval literature. He serves as co-convenor (with Jenn Chenkin) of the Eighteenth-Century Reading Group and (with Michele Cohen and Clare Barlow) of the Education in the Long 18th Century seminar series at the Institute of Historical Research.
His PhD research (supervised by Professor Isabel Rivers and Dr David Wykes) examines private academies of Protestant dissenters in England (1660-1720), including a biographical dictionary of 110 early tutors and notes on nearly 1,000 students like Thomas Secker and Isaac Watts. He has contributed to the Dictionary of Early American Philosophers, the Dissenting Academies Database, and the History of the Dissenting Academies in the British Isles, 1660-1860.
