Mark Burde

Mark Burde is a Lecturer in French at the University of Michigan's Residential College East Quad. He holds a B.A. in History from Yale University and a Ph.D. in French Literature (medieval specialization) from Washington University in St. Louis. His academic work focuses on medieval literature and culture, particularly parody and satire, alongside translation projects converting Old French verse into English verse.

• Teaches in French Intensive Language, First-Year Seminar, and Arts and Ideas programs
• Research interests include social history, history of religion, and sociolinguistics

Current projects involve translating medieval French poetry while maintaining rhythmic and thematic integrity. He contributes to the Residential College's interdisciplinary humanities curriculum, emphasizing language acquisition and cultural analysis.
