Mark Bowman

Mark Bowman is an Associate Professor of Justice Studies at Methodist University within the College of Arts, Humanities & Sciences, where he teaches Justice Studies (MJA) courses and directs the Darl H. Champion Center for Excellence in Justice Administration. His research focuses on police turnover and leadership development in law enforcement.

With extensive experience in policing and military service, Bowman retired as a Lieutenant from the Virginia Beach Police Department after 26 years, where he led night operations, developed leadership programs, and served in roles such as Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Drug Recognition Expert, and SWAT Officer. He also retired as a Major from the U.S. Army Reserve, including 18 years as a Special Forces Officer commanding Special Forces A Detachments.
