Mark A. Feitelson is a Professor of Biology at Temple University's College of Science and Technology. He holds a B.S. from UC Irvine (1974) and a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from UCLA (1979). His career includes postdoctoral work at Stanford University and roles at Fox Chase Cancer Center and Thomas Jefferson University. His research focuses on hepatitis B, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and gut microbiome therapies, with over 150 publications and two books. He co-founded SFA Therapeutics, a Temple spin-out advancing microbiome-based treatments in clinical trials for autoimmune diseases and cancer.
He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in microbiology, virology, and biotechnology. As a consultant for 13 companies and with 11 patents, he bridges academia and industry. He has mentored over 130 students since the 1980s, including 24 MS, 8 Ph.D., and 13 postdoctoral trainees. His lab’s work has earned awards for innovation, and he serves as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) at SFA Therapeutics.
