Marjory Harper

Professor Marjory Harper is a Visiting Professor at the UHI Centre for History, specializing in Scottish diaspora studies, migration patterns, and oral history. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary social issues, particularly migration's psychosocial impacts. She has authored multiple award-winning monographs including Scotland No More? (2012, Frank Watson Prize) and Adventurers and Exiles (2003, Saltire History Prize).

Her research focuses on transnational identities, twentieth-century emigration, and oral testimonies. Recent projects include Testimonies of Transition (2018), soon to be an audiobook, and co-authored Migration and Empire (2010) as part of the Oxford History of the British Empire series.

Awards include the Saltire History Prize (2004) and recognition for her innovative approaches to combining archival research with oral narratives. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary methodologies connecting history, sociology, and public health.
