Mariusz Gorzelak

Mariusz Gorzelak is an Associate Professor at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, affiliated with the Faculty of Graphics and Media Art and the Printmaking Department. He holds roles including Member of the Electoral College (2020-2024), Member of the Council of the Faculty of Graphics and Media Art, and Secretary of Entrance Examinations for Printmaking. He coordinates student internships and tutors first-year printmaking students.

He completed his Master's (2005) and PhD (2013) at the same academy under Professors Andrzej Basaj, Anna Janusz-Strzyż, and Roman Kowalik. His research focuses on artistic printmaking (intaglio, relief), artists' books, and drawing, emphasizing both historical techniques and contemporary innovations. He views printmaking as a form of cultural resistance, inspired by figures like Mario Vargas Llosa.

His awards include the 2019 Honorary Distinction from the Sint-Niklaas Competition (Belgium) and the 2018 Grand Prize at Skopje's Ex Libris. Major exhibitions include the 2019 Mexico Biennial and the 2018 Bangkok Triennial. He has presented at international conferences like Collaborative Printmaking: Randomness Matters! in Spain and participated in residencies at institutions such as the Kala Art Institute (USA) and the Centre for Fine Print Research (UK).

Publications include Para.Ceramics.Printmaking (2018) and Idea-process-case study in intaglio and relief print techniques (2016). His works often blend traditional techniques with conceptual narratives, reflecting on themes like existence and cultural memory.
